Gain fluency, clarity and confidence speaking English inside Grammaria's 'Valley of Conversation'.

Goal:

Activate the English content already assimilated by the student in other areas of the ‘Londinense Methodology’ or in their own personal journeys. The goal is authentic self-expression through the lense of identity and presence.

A Journey Through the Valley of Conversation

When speaking a language: vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation are important.

We adquire plenty of vocabulary and grammatical structures in other areas of Grammaria within the 'Londinense Methodology.'

The 'Valley of Conversation' is a place to start putting that content to good use.

We are going to start using our voices to speak.

Most often, those who choose the 'Londinense' space to practise their speaking are looking for an integrated and holístic approach to voice access.

At the 'Londinense', we know that behind every voice lies a unique person.

The Valley of Conversation is big enough to contain each individual universe and his/ her own relationship to uncertainty, mistakes, shyness, embarrassment.

In The Conversation Lab there is an invitation to explore the deeper landscape of one's voice as an extension of their full identity.

Together, we will travel, passing through the Four Voice Gates, entering ancient places within Grammaria, and gradually discovering not just how to speak English more fluently, but how to inhabit our voice more fully.

Along the way, we will explore flow before perfection, truth before performance, play before pressure, precision without perfectionism, the courage to be seen, the stories that shaped our voice, and the tools that help us express ourselves with greater freedom, clarity and presence.

This is not a traditional English course.

There are no exams or grades.

There is no race to become perfect.

Instead, there is a journey and ritual.

A journey of curiosity, practice and observation.

We will reach to use our voices in a way that feels increasingly calm, intentional and authentically personal.

Each week introduces a new place within the world of Grammaria, a new ritual, and a new perspective on communication. Some weeks are practical. Some are philosophical. Some may challenge the way you think about yourself. All of them are designed to help you build a more conscious relationship with your voice.

The Valley is waiting.

Welcome to the Conversation Lab.

The Conversation Lab: 'The King's Speech Method'

Speaking is a fundamental part of our human experience. It is not just about producing words. It is about having the courage to be seen and occupy space with your voice. Like in the other phases of the ‘Methodology’, I want to use one of my favourite films to anecdotally accompany this message. ↓

There once was a man who was never meant to rule. King George VI found himself catapulted onto a world stage when his brother Edward abdicated. Ironically he was plagued by a real, significant stammer (stutter/ speech impediment). This was not just a mild hesitation, but something that made public speaking genuinely difficult and stressful - and the world… was listening.

This story is dramatically portrayed in the film ‘The King’s Speech’ where King George is played by Colin Firth. At one point, in the film he makes a breakthrough screaming at his therapist: “I have a voice!” The therapist replies simply and calmly: “Yes, you do.”

And that is what is at stake here. Because very often, when we speak in another language (and even our mother tongue), we feel like we have lost our voice and thus our identity, or at least parts of it. Yet, as we acquire words in the foreign language, it is not that we don’t know…. It is that we don’t allow ourselves to speak. We hesitate. We filter. We judge ourselves. This is true even in the mother tongue. We hold back.

One huge part of my work as an English teacher is to offer up content that I believe to be ‘Essential’ and priority. During this phase I provide real, practical sentences for the student to translate. Another huge part of my work is to unlock the student’s personal, authentic voice so that they can first recognise their own unique vocabulary needs and subsequently make the transition to activate that which they are learning into real, coherent, self-structured speech. There comes a point where the student must stop consuming content and use that which they have assimilated to create their own.

During the phase of student-led speaking activation I find myself not only working with the English language but also drawing out and defining student individual identity and working on presence and personal expression.

In this course we will look at how the voice has a history and over time we can accumulate certain voice blocks. As we grow up, parts of our identity get shamed and forbidden and banished. And slowly, parts of our voice… disappear too. They get banished along with those denied parts of ourself. Everyone I have ever worked with has at least some part of the voice that needs to be teased out of the shadows, tended to and taken care of. The voice needs unearthing from protected hidden corners of ourselves. The reason is so that we can each step onto our own platform.

King George VI found himself on a world stage, whether he liked it or not.  But the truth is…so do we all. In your daily life, in front of your family, your friends, your colleagues…you are on a stage. And there is always someone listening.  Always - even when you say nothing, that silence is also heard. So, there is nowhere to hideAnd at some point, each of us must make a decision: to shrink, or to step forward.  This is not just about English. This is about learning to occupy the space in your own life and to let your voice be heard.

This is work I know deeply.  Of course, I am a language teacher and I have been helping people with this for over 15 years. I have had to rebuild my life from zero, coming to a new country without speaking the language. However perhaps most potently, as a singer, I have had to learn how to stand in front of people, to face the discomfort, to move through the fear, and to trust that my voice has a place.  It is the same here.

The Conversation Lab is not a place to be perfect.

It is a place to BE and especially BE YOU. For that we need to unblock, trust, express, show up.

Your voice in English is not something separate from you. It is you… moving through another language.

King George VI did not become a great speaker overnight. None of my voice accomplishments came overnight either. However, with practice, guidance, and courage, I see that my voice has become something that can support others just as King George’s did. Marvellously, inspite of his speech impediment, his words had global impact during World War II.

And that is the shift that happens in the Conversation Lab. Your ideas begin to flow. Your presence becomes stronger. Your personality begins to appear in the language. And little by little…you stop “speaking English” and you start being yourself in English.

So don’t come here to get it right. Come here to take the stage. Come here to use your voice. Come here to be seen and heard. I’m here to guide you.

If you want to read in more depth about the different areas inside the 'Londinense Methodology', you can explore the website at your leisure.  ↓

→ Aquí no vamos a compararnos.
